👩‍🍳 About Vita Milanese

The woman behind The Italian Kitchen.

Vita Milanese

Benvenuti in cucina, amici miei

I was born in the sun of Puglia, a generous land where extra-virgin olive oil runs through the veins like passion, and where every grandmother teaches that cooking is not just technique — it is love, memory, welcome. From that golden land I carried the respect for ingredients, the patience of handmade pasta, and the certainty that a well-cooked dish can change someone's day.

Then destiny — and a great love — brought me to Milan. There, among the skyscrapers and the navigli, I discovered that cooking can be simultaneously rooted and cosmopolitan. Milan taught me the elegance of the table, the precision of measurements, the courage to experiment. And so, between an orecchietta and a risotto, between the aroma of Neapolitan coffee and that of saffron, the cook I am today was born: a woman of two lands, of the south that warms the heart and the north that refines the palate.

The Italian Kitchen

Between these pages you will find over 2,700 recipes. Yes, you read that right: two thousand seven hundred. Collected over years of work, travel, nighttime tastings, solved mistakes, successes celebrated with a glass in hand. Recipes from all over the world: from the rustic cooking of my Puglia to sophisticated French techniques, from the spicy flavors of Mexico to the fragrant spices of India, from Japanese traditions to the genuineness of Italian country cooking.

But this is not just a cookbook. It is a gastronomic survival manual, a compass for those who cook every day and for those approaching the stove for the first time.

My philosophy in three words

Simplicity. You don't need to be a starred chef to eat well. You need curiosity, good ingredients, and the will to try.

Respect. Respect for food, for those who produce it, for those who cook it, for those who receive it. Every dish is a gift.

Joy. Cooking shouldn't be a duty. It should be a moment of happiness. Even when you burn the garlic — and we'll get there — laugh about it and start over.

For the American kitchen

Every recipe in The Italian Kitchen has been rewritten for American home cooks: measurements in cups and ounces, temperatures in Fahrenheit, ingredients you can find at your local supermarket — from Walmart to Trader Joe's to Whole Foods. Four servings per recipe, clear step-by-step instructions, chef's tips, wine pairings, and complete nutritional information.
